Hello, my name is Madison LaBella and I am an Assistant Professor of Management at Marist University. I am passionate about improving organizational life for employees, teams, and organizations. Throughout my career working with community development, consulting, and social mission organizations, I have seen that business can be a force for good in our lives and in our communities. As such, I dedicate my research, teaching, and consulting to improving individual wellbeing and organizational outcomes.
In my research, I seek to understand how relational experiences affect individual and group wellbeing and performance and what organizations can do to increase a sense of connection and wellbeing among members. I run the International Loneliness & Belongingness Research Group, an group of 50+ scholars and organizational leaders who meet monthly to discuss the research and practice of understanding and strengthening social connection at work.
What issues is your organization facing? Let's connect!

As a loneliness researcher, I know that our communities and relationships matter for both the quality of our work and our wellbeing at work. That is why I founded the Loneliness and Belongingness Research Group, an international group of more than 50 scholars and practitioners. We meet monthly to share our work, collaborate, and generate new ideas. Please join us by emailing me at labellaorglife@gmail.com.
All are welcome! You don't need to study loneliness or belongingness to join the group or attend meetings. Simply come with an interest in discussing and learning about these or tangential topic areas. We value interdisciplinary thinking and informal and formal collaborations across disciplines.
We look forward to seeing you at Academy of Management 2026 for our third annual symposium on loneliness at work!
